Ernest Edward Noble, the thirteenth Mayor of Princeton, was elected in 1918. Unfortunately, Noble was elected during the worst outbreak of influenza in Princeton's history and within a year would himself be stricken with influenza.
Ernest Noble was born in Centralia, Illinois on January 9, 1964 to Edward T. and Eliza "Northrup" Noble.
During his early boyhood, the family moved to Terre Haute where he lived till young boyhood. In 1885 he married Miss Emma Lightfoot and they had five children. Noble as a young man worked as an apprentice in a plumbers shop in Terre Haute, later working as a steam fitter at the Terre Haute Railroad shops. In March 1893 Noble moved to Huntingburg to continue his work on the railroad as a steam fitter and sheet
metal worker. In June 1893 he moved to Princeton to work at the Air Line Railroad. Noble severed his connection with the railroad in 1906 and established the Noble Plumbing and Heating Company. Noble was elected Mayor in 1918 and was insurmountable in establishing the Emergency Hospital for Influenza patients. Little did Ernest Noble know at the time that he would himself be a victim of the illness.
