On January 28, 1919
at a special meeting of the City Council, C.A. Shubart was appointed to
fill the unexpired term of Ernest E. Noble, who died while Mayor of
Princeton. Clemson Shubart
became the fourteenth Mayor of Princeton and served the remainder of the
term which expired on December 31, 1921.
M.E. Shoptaugh was appointed to fill Shubarts term as
councilman-at-large.
Mr. & Mrs.
Shubart came to Princeton in 1898 from Canton, Ohio as a photographer.
He later established the well known Shubart Studio which he
personally operated until just a few years before his death.
Mrs. Shubart died on June 1, 1943.
Clemson Shubart was
a charter member of the Princeton Elk’s Lodge and was three time Exalted
Ruler. Shubart lived his
final years at the Elk’s National Home in Bedford, Virginia where he
died. Shubart was buried in
Princeton at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
