Walter E. "Gene" Vinson


Walter "Gene" E. Vinson was elected Princeton's twenty-fifth Mayor in November of 1971 and took office in January 1972.

Gene Vinson was born in Crafton, Kentucky on September 7, 1914. Gene would move from Kentucky to Oakland City and later to Princeton where he would reside for over 50 years. Vinson was a well-known businessman, owning and operating the Red Head Grill. Gene was especially liked by our local veterans, as Vinson was Gibson County's Service Officer and founder of the VFW Post 1147. Gene was a veteran himself serving in World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps. 

Walter Vinson was married to Mary Louise Vinson.
