Taylor's early education was in public schools in Princeton.
George began work at an early age to help the family make ends meet. At the tender age of twenty, Taylor was called to serve his country in World War II and would serve thirty-seven months in the Marine

Upon returning, Taylor wed Marie Garver on June 14, 1945.

George Taylor, a life long Democrat would be elected to the Indiana House of Representatives for two terms. In November of 1987
he was elected for his first of three terms as the Mayor of the City of Princeton and decided not

Some of Taylor's major accomplishments during his twelve years as Mayor
included the completion of the south main overpass, the paving of numerous streets, the renovation of the old Sears building into a new attractive and functional City Hall, the construction of a new Fire Station at the corner of Embree and Brumfield, a new seventy five foot ladder truck for the fire department, and the annexation west of Highway 41.
George would over see several expansions and improvements in the water department's distribution system, new workshop building, a new one million gallon water tower west of town and a new six mile 20" water line from the water wells west of town to the water plant.
Taylor's administration also made numerous improvements to the sewer department,
including a ten million dollar expansion of the wastewater treatment plant, a five mile sewer extension and the installation of a new lift station south of town to attract Toyota Automotive Manufacturing to Princeton. Taylor also facilitated the rehabilitation and lining of 25,000 feet of sewer line in the heart of the city to improve the
city's sewer system.
All city departments benefited greatly from Taylor’s time as Mayor, receiving many up grades, improvements and new equipment in each department, too numerous to list them all.
