Mayor Robert J. Hurst
Robert J. Hurst became Princeton’s thirty first mayor on February 14, 2005 following the passing of Mayor Shirley Robb. Mr. Hurst was selected by Democratic precinct committee men and
women to complete Mayor Robb's term.
Hurst was born in Terre Haute Indiana to PFC Robert G. Hurst and Ann (Mahoney) Hurst on February 9, 1945.
Following WWII the Hurst family moved to Northwest Indiana near Chesterton.
Hurst became a Professional Geologist completing his undergraduate education at the University of Indiana’s Northwest Campus with a degree in geology and minors in chemistry and mathematics.
In 1966 Robert J. Hurst married Delysia Lynn Radiger and they would later have a son named Scott Andrew Hurst.
Hurst continued his education with post graduate studies that included hydro geological work at the University of Oklahoma State and Western Michigan University.
In September of 1974 Robert J. Hurst moved this family to Gibson County.
Hurst Served for six years in the United States Naval Reserves.
Hurst would become employed as a geological consultant to coal mines and environmental industries until he was appointed Mayor on February 14, 2005.
Hurst began his political career in 1976 as a precinct committee man, a position he has held for 30 years.
In 1988 Robert Hurst was elected to a four year term as City Councilman and returned again in 2000 to represent as the third ward as City Councilman. Hurst would vacate his Councilman’s seat to take over the leadership of the City of Princeton following the death of Mayor Robb.
