Park History

Lafayette Park

On March 9,1896 the City Council agreed to purchased
the Land North of Spruce St. and East of Embree St.
at a cost of $3,700 dollars
from Charles Gaffall and his wife for use as a park.
The land was commonly known as Barton's Woods
and was just out side the City limits..

City Council named the park in January 1899 and
from that time it has been known as Lafayette Park.
