Fine Air Aeration

The Sanitaire fine air aeration system provides an environment rich in oxygen and food (organic matter) for the natural occurring bacteria. The bacteria use the oxygen to reduce the organic matter in the wastewater. In addition, some bacteria are used to reduce nutrients such as ammonia and phosphorus.

The Sanitaire fine air aeration system is located in the Aeration Tanks which are located on each side of the Operations Building in what is the old part of the plant and which is now known as the West Plant. Air for the aeration system is supplied by blowers which are located in the Operations Building.

The Sanitaire fine air aeration system incorporates Ceramic Disc Air Diffusers which produce a stream of fine air bubbles through the wastewater.

Fine Air Aeration System

The Sanitaire ceramic fine bubble disc diffusers is considered the most efficient technology available for oxygen transfer in wastewater treatment applications.
The Sanitaire air distributor system incorporates a patented locking pipe joint that combines sliding and fixed type guide supports to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. The unique system design allows the individual distributors to move freely through the pipe supports.
The patented fixed joint features an airtight O-ring seal, anti-rotational splines and a positive threaded locking retainer ring to prevent air leakage, pipe blow apart and distributor rollover.
The submerged components consist of corrosion resistant materials with the PVC air distribution piping system - mechanical integrity being a well proven technology.
Joint components are factory solvent welded to the pipe ends, allowing for quick and easy assembly of the air distribution sections. The air headers feature positive drainage with sumps and a purge system.

The unique contoured ceramic disc diffuser element design promotes dependable, uniform air distribution and bubble release. The Top sealing, threaded retainer ring holder design ensures airtight seal. As air pressure is increased, so is the sealing force on the O-ring gasket, thereby eliminating leaks. Diffuser holders are factory bonded to the air distribution piping eliminating the necessity for field installation and levelling of individual assemblies. The system has high oxygen transfer efficiency and low system head loss and the Quiescent surface pattern reduces freezing and airborne aerosol problems. All components made from corrosion resistant materials, PVC and stainless steel.
